Reading Partners Training with RISD
Arapaho UMC is partnering with Carolyn Bukhair Elementary to support early literacy among K–2nd grade students, and we are excited to welcome Sonya Parker from Richardson ISD to lead a training for those interested in serving as reading partners. The training will take place on Tuesday, September 9 at 6:30 pm in Room 1 at the church.
Reading Partners make a weekly commitment to sit with the same student for a semester, offering encouragement, consistency, and support as the child grows in reading skills. For those unable to commit every week, it is possible to pair with one other volunteer and alternate weeks, though no more than two volunteers may serve with the same student.
Our hope is to have at least ten volunteers step into this meaningful work, with a stretch goal of fifteen. By giving your time in this way, you will help a child not only grow in reading but also feel seen, supported, and cared for. This is a simple yet powerful way to make a difference and deepen our partnership with Carolyn Bukhair Elementary.
