Let’s Talk Race: A Beginner’s Guide to Conversations about Race
Talking about race isn’t easy, but it is essential. This five-week series, Let’s Talk Race: A Beginner’s Guide to Conversations about Race, offers an accessible introduction to the spiritual, historical, and societal impacts of race in America—and within the church.
The goal of this class is simple but profound: to grow in knowledge of our neighbors, to deepen empathy, and to stand in solidarity. Facilitated by Collin Packer of LTR alongside AUMC member Cecil Taylor, the course creates space for honest conversation, reflection, and learning together.
While discussions are primarily designed with white participants in mind, all are welcome. We encourage everyone to engage, whether this is your first step into race-related conversations or you’ve been part of previous discussions at AUMC. This class serves as our church’s baseline learning—a foundation for ongoing, faithful dialogue about race.
Classes begin Thursday, October 9, at 6:30 pm in Room 40 and continue for five weeks.
