Day School

The purpose of the Arapaho United Methodist Church Day School is to provide an opportunity for children to work and play in a nurturing, Christian atmosphere.  Emphasis is placed on developmentally appropriate creative and preacademic activities which will enable each child to develop physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally.  Contact Sharon Groves, Day School Director at 972-231-1005 or via email for more information.

“Pow Wow” is the Day School’s optional extended day program offered from 11:45 – 2:00, Monday through Friday.   The format is less structured than the morning, including outside play, Bike Room play, art activities, special visitors and short age-appropriate videos and movies.  Children bring their own lunches.

Mother’s Day Out (MDO) is offered for infants and toddlers Thursday and/or Friday, September through May.  The hours are 8:45 – 2:00.   Classes are staffed by experienced loving teachers and caregivers with a small adult/child ratio, offering a child care option for a child’s first time away from home, for the part-time working parent, and for parents with other children enrolled in the Day School.  The children’s day includes age appropriate classroom play, art activities, circle time activities,  outside play, large muscle room play, snacks, lunch and nap.  Activities vary depending on the age group.

Faculty and Classes

Teachers are selected for their love and concern for children. They are qualified through education, training, experience and specialized skills to work with preschool children. In the interest of a productive learning environment, our classes are limited in size. The Day School accepts and welcomes children of all races, color and creeds.

The Day School is in session Monday through Friday from 8:45am until 11:45am, September through May, following the Richardson ISD calendar. An optional extended day program called Pow wow is available from 11:45am until 2:00pm.

Age Requirement

To be eligible for enrollment, a child must be the designated age as of September 1st of the current school year. Day School classes begin for children who are 2 1/2 years old.

The curriculum is designed around thematic units to help each child gain self-confidence, independence and an awareness of our world. The experiences provided are based on knowledge of the child's physical, social, emotional and intellectual developmental needs. The curriculum includes large and small muscle activities, art, music, science, pre-math and pre-reading activities, language and listening skills, problem solving, and social interaction.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement and participation in the Day School are encouraged and are an important component of our program. Parents are welcome to visit the classes during the day and perhaps share a talent or hobby. Parents are given the opportunity to sign up as monthly helpers to provide special snacks and holiday parties.  The Arapaho Parents' Association (APA) provides parent/guardians a forum for fellowship and participation in the school.  Teacher appreciation events, fundraisers, annual Pizza Night, parent coffees, outreach programs and summer play dates are all opportunities for volunteer leadership and involvement.
